May 4: RIP, MCA
Today, Beastie Boy Adam Yauch died. The first musician of my life who has had a real impact on me, and I'm shaken somehow.
I was born into a world with a dead Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon and was too young to be affected by Kurt Cobain's death, though Amy Winehouse was sad I didn't lose sleep over it.
But MCA, this is something else. Perhaps the comic engine, in my opinion, perhaps the spark plug of the great Beastie Boys.
I'll miss you, MCA.

Feb 5: Cineplex Great Digital Film Festival
This week marks Cineplex's 2nd annual Great Digital Film Festival.
The festival shows old films re-mastered (or whatever the word is) to be blindingly sharp, digital versions. Some on this year's roster are the Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, and the Back to the Future trilogy. All of this for a measly $5.50.
Even more excitingly, the fine folks at Movieposter.com have a commercial in the reel before the movies begin, and I scored the soundtrack. The commercial plays about 25 minutes before showtime, so get there early!
